MNQ Wyckoff Upthrust Stopping Volume Short 2R
A public playbook for the MNQ Wyckoff/VSA upthrust stopping-volume short that survived the Strategy Lab filter stack.
40 trades / 52.5% win / 3.62 profit factor / +19.38 avg pts.
What This Setup Is
A short setup that looks for a failed push above resistance, signs of stopping volume, and a rotation back below the breakout area.
Why It Fires
An upthrust can trap breakout buyers above an obvious high. When stopping volume appears and price loses the level, the failed auction can rotate lower quickly.
Exact Trigger Checklist
- Chart: MNQ 1-minute bars during the New York setup window.
- Identify an obvious prior high or resistance shelf.
- Wait for an upthrust above that shelf followed by rejection.
- Required filter: regime_rates+gap_bucket=flat+gap_up_large.
- Short after acceptance back below the failed breakout level.
Good Conditions
- The upthrust sweeps a clear level that traders can see in real time.
- Stopping volume appears near the high instead of after the move is over.
- Rates regime is flat and the gap bucket matches the saved test.
- Price cannot regain the failed breakout shelf.
Avoid Conditions
- The breakout holds above resistance and builds value higher.
- The volume read is noisy or unavailable.
- The upthrust occurs into a thin lunch-session tape.
- The short has no room before prior support.
